Anthony Bourke Speaker Biography

Major Anthony “AB” Bourke is a highly accomplished and decorated F-16 fighter pilot who flew tactical missions in service to our country all over the world.  He has accumulated more than 2,700 hours of flight time in various high performance aircraft and was one of the first pilots to fly an F-16 in homeland defense efforts over New York City in the aftermath of September 11th

Following his impressive military career, AB applied the tools and techniques that made him one of our nation's premier fighter pilots to the competitive world of business.  He ascended rapidly to become the top producing mortgage banker in the Western US for a prominent lending institution. His success in the mortgage banking industry led to an opportunity with a California based start-up where his team dramatically grew annual revenue from $500,000 to $65M in just three years.

Following these two endeavors, AB combined his love of business with his passion for tactical aviation to build Afterburner Seminars, a global training company based on the lessons he learned in the military.  While President & CEO, Afterburner grew into a best-in-class training company that was twice named one of Inc. magazine's 500 fastest growing companies.

Currently AB serves as CEO & Founder of Mach 2 Consulting and has shared his message of peak performance to more than 100,000 people in twelve different countries.  AB brings his tactical knowledge and business acumen to the forefront of the management training world to share how fighter pilots, and other organizations where performance truly matters, can develop a feedback system to ensure continuous improvement and peak performance. His wealth of experience and ability to connect with audiences landed AB in Inc Magazine’s 100 Great Leadership Speakers for Your Next Conference.

"The Chain of Events Leads to The Scene of The Accident" Keynote Speech on Safety

Duration: 45-60 Minutes
In this dynamic and compelling keynote speech, AB shares a gripping personal story of a near-fatal accident while piloting an F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet during a training mission over Western Pennsylvania. Through immersive multimedia and vivid storytelling, AB takes the audience into the cockpit, where they will experience the exhilarating and harrowing moments as he lights the afterburners, propelling them on a thrilling journey that nearly ends in disaster.
This captivating account holds powerful lessons for any organization where Execution is Critical and Safety is Paramount. AB highlights how a sequence of seemingly minor oversights and missed opportunities for communication led to a precarious situation. From mission planning, engine start, taxi, and takeoff, a chain of events was set in motion leading them to the scene of the accident. If he, his backseater, his flight lead, or even his crew chief had voiced their concerns, the mission’s trajectory might have been altered, potentially averting the near catastrophe. AB emphasizes that this "Chain of Events" can culminate in accidents not just in aviation, but also on job sites, in hospitals, on oil rigs, and in boardrooms. However, accidents can be prevented when teams are empowered to speak up and act when things start to go awry.
“Twenty minutes into our mission, we made a sharp left-hand turn that led us over a pristine lake that funneled us into a spectacular river valley with walls that rose up more than 1,000 feet on both sides. This was our final leg before identifying our target, and per our plan I dropped down to 300’ above ground level, stroked up the afterburner and accelerated my mighty F-4 Phantom to 540 knots or nine miles per minute. I remember a feeling of pure joy knowing how lucky I was to have the privilege of flying this great airplane in such a beautiful place.
About 60 miles from our target, I suddenly felt and heard what I perceived at that time to be a loud explosion with a bright flash of white light. The euphoria was over and though I didn’t have any idea what happened, I instinctively knew that my next few actions would be critical to my survival. The whole cockpit had gone white which limited my visibility, and it had become extremely loud inside which meant I couldn’t communicate with my back-seater regardless of how adamantly I yelled into the microphone in my mask. My training kicked in immediately and once again my instructor’s key phrases hit me like a lightning bolt: “Climb to Cope"...."Speed is Life".....
AB’s riveting narrative not only delivers a heart-pounding experience but also imparts essential safety lessons, underscoring the importance of vigilance, communication, and empowerment in preventing accidents. This keynote is a must-see for any organization dedicated to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring that every team member feels confident to speak up when things don’t look right.

Executing at Mach 2
There are many companies with great people and great strategies in the business world today.  Ultimately the difference between the winners and the “also rans” comes down to Execution. During this interactive, multi-media keynote speech, AB will share the tools that fighter squadrons use to make sure that we are aligned, flying in formation and executing at the highest level every single time we fly. This highly motivating and inspiring keynote will equip your team with simple actionable tools that they can apply the very next day to improve execution and drive better results as individuals and as a team.  If your company is pursuing a path of Executional Excellence, this session will reinforce your messaging and provide a fresh perspective on why Execution truly matters in every business.

Communicating at Mach 2
A high impact Keynote focusing on how the world’s most successful enterprises – where results truly matter – achieve peak performance by creating a culture of honest and open feedback. At the conclusion of this multi-media presentation, your team will walk out the door with a clear understanding of the potential power of open feedback. They will also learn how a “feedback gap” can cripple an organization. Finally, they will see a clear path on how they can make open feedback an integral part of company culture.

Leading at Mach 2
All great leaders have a system for driving peak performance. This hard-charging, high-impact keynote offers your leaders the straightforward, critical tools that U.S. fighter pilots employ to lead their wingmen into the demanding environment of aerial combat. Learn how the best fighter squadrons and the best businesses in the world hire future leaders, how they then properly train those individuals, and constantly promote a process of continuous improvement to stay one step ahead of the competition.

Selling at Mach 2
In addition to rising to the top of the aviation community, AB built a business career on sales excellence. After achieving accolades as “Top Producer in the Western US” for a prominent lending institution, AB led a team of 40 professionals to grow revenue at a California based start-up company from $500,000 to $65M in just three years. A quintessential sales professional, AB will teach your people that just like fighter pilots, “great sales people are made… not born.” He draws comprehensive parallels between what makes great fighter pilots and what makes great sales people. For organizations looking to develop a sales team of “Top Guns,” this dynamic, interactive speech is a must!

Innovating at Mach 2
In today’s rapidly changing world companies and their people must constantly innovate to stay ahead of the competition. While many people in business think only of Tech Entrepreneurs as the leading innovators of our day, there is no doubt that fighter pilots are constantly innovating to survive and thrive in the world of aerial combat.   As a former fighter pilot and serial entrepreneur, AB has applied the tools that fighter pilots use to stay ahead of the competition to the world of business.  In this speech, AB will share these secrets and show your audience what it takes to be the best innovators both in combat and in their industry.

Staying Safe at Mach 2
Safety can be a dry topic, and that’s exactly why high safety standards are difficult to meet; it’s easy to forget procedures or cut corners.  Industry can learn a lot from the world of fighter pilots, who have evolved ways of doing things due to the tremendous complexity and pressure that combat presents – the proven elements of checklists, a culture of safety, and continuous improvement through debriefing can ensure top performance in the most difficult of conditions.

Safety is the key to every successful mission for a fighter pilot.  No matter how fast they fly, or how accurate their bombing runs, none of it matters if they don’t come home.  Learn how the best fighter squadrons in the world train their people to execute the mission at the highest level every day, while keeping “safety first” top of mind. In this high-impact keynote, AB explains how to build a culture of safety without compromising the mission.  He will also paint a vivid picture of how to identify the series of events that can lead to an accident while offering attendees the critical tools that U.S. fighter pilots employ every day to keep their wingmen safe in the high stakes environment of aerial combat.
