Patient Safety
Mike’s experience as a filmmaker, professional athlete, and son of a patient safety pioneer put him in the unique position of a perspective you’ve likely not heard before. When speaking about patient safety, Mike condenses the 3+ years of research for his film down the crucial elements that will help an audience understand what they can do to be at the cutting edge of quality improvement. He combines his many years of experience as a baseball player with the important lessons of teamwork and communication into every speaking engagement. Mike has infused his father’s positive (and sometimes humorous) approach into every presentation, by sharing the success stories of others. Instead of focusing on the horror stories that come with preventable harm in medicine, Mike brings an anecdotal approach that leaves his audience with tangible ideas that can be implemented immediately.
To Err is Human
Mike’s presentation combines film clips from To Err Is Human, real-world examples of successful patient safety efforts he has seen while touring the film, baseball analogies, and the occasional humorous pop culture reference. Through this approach, Mike aims to provide a fresh perspective for the audience so they can walk away with tangible ideas and a re-invigorated passion for improvement. Each presentation has a conversational element that allows the audience to interact with Mike by sharing questions and concerns specific to their organization.
