Florida
Lucas Daniel Boyce shares a powerful story as a former foster care child, born prematurely to an alcohol and drug-addicted teenager who traded sex for drugs, and how he overcame daunting life challenges in pursuit of his dreams. Developmentally delayed as a result of his birth mother’s abuse, Lucas struggled out of the gate and ended up failing kindergarten. However, his adoptive mother didn’t cast him aside as another tragic statistic. Instead, Dorothy Boyce instilled in Lucas two very important principles that drove his determination to overcome the cards he’d been dealt and enabled him to eventually serve at the White House, fly aboard Air Force One, and become an executive for the NBA’s Orlando Magic at the young age of 29.
Lucas Boyce currently serves as the Assistant to the County Administrator for Orange County Florida Government. He advises the County Administrator and provides administrative, analytical, and technical support. He plans and participates in various programs and operational initiatives that have county-wide impact. Lucas participates in the strategic planning process to establish the future direction for Orange County. He represents the County in meetings and makes presentations to government and business agencies to promote the interest of the County on key issues.
Additional initiatives provide Lucas with the opportunity to be an advisor to the Financial Aid Network, LLC, and the Global Institute of College Planning. Some of the industries and organizations Lucas’ clients come from include: Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges and Universities, Faith-Based Organizations, Think Tanks, Public Policy Organizations, Corporations, and organizations advocating for Foster Care Youth and Adoption Awareness.
Lucas was appointed to a number of different roles focused on philanthropy, diversity and inclusion, and corporate social responsibility with the Orlando Magic from 2008-2016. He served as the Director of Business Development, Community Relations, Multicultural Insights, Cause Marketing, and Government Affairs.
Prior to the Orlando Magic, Lucas served at the White House in a number of different positions where he managed a wide-ranging portfolio of responsibilities that included proactive communication, public relations, and education outreach among diverse communities, constituencies, and issues on behalf of the President.
Lucas is the author of Living Proof: From Foster Care to the White House and the NBA, published in January 2011. With over twenty years of professional speaking experience, he travels across the country giving speeches focused on servant leadership, teamwork, overcoming obstacles, and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

The Necessity Of Team Work
Everybody Grab a Handle: The Art of Building Successful Teams
In order to be successful in a unit or team, we must be selfless. Each of us, through our individual gifts, must do our part to contribute to the whole. No more. No less. Being a strong teammate requires resolute commitment, and unwavering dedication. You’re either in or you’re out. In this presentation, Lucas uncovers the four building blocks of strong and cohesive teams. With the NBA and its best teams as a real-world guide, Lucas discusses what it takes for organizations, leaders, families and communities to build unbreakable bonds that foster success.
Obliterating Obstacles Living Proof: You Are Built for Something More
Living Proof is a presentation that details Lucas’ journey to overcome significant obstacles to achieve three once-in-a-lifetime goals. Personal history or external conditions outside of our control don’t have to determine our future trajectory, success and/or fulfillment. While some may view past and present conditions as an eternal harness and cause for inaction or paralysis, Lucas shares why our obstacles and limitations become irrelevant when we understand our life purpose and are willing to reach for something more. It doesn’t matter at what station of life we find ourselves, we are built for something more. We are meant to succeed. Lucas is Living Proof of this and shares his view on what it takes to overcome, stand up, and stand out.
