You Have to Surrender to Win: Climbing Your Way Out of Rock Bottom

From the heights of TV news stardom to the depths of despair in her darkest periods of alcoholism, Laurie Dhue shares her courageous story of getting--and staying—clean and sober. In this inspirational speech, Dhue offers insight into her battle with a nearly 20-year addiction and how she finally surrendered to the process of recovery from a disease that would have eventually killed her. Through her brave and passionate story, Laurie shows audiences that through failure and fear comes humility—and eventually triumph.

Addiction as a Modern Health Crisis

Every 14 seconds, someone dies from one of the biggest healthcare issues in this country: addiction. This disease costs America half a trillion dollars a year in lost wages, lost productivity, hospitalization, institutionalization and incarceration, not to mention liver failure, heart disease and cancer. Addiction doesn't discriminate: it touches every American family in one way or another. In this speech, veteran broadcast journalist and recovering alcoholic Laurie Dhue reveals how drug and alcohol abuse is ravaging this country, and provides insight into what can, and should be done to battle this epidemic.
