David Hale is a Chicago-based global economist and advisor whose clients include investment management firms, major hedge funds and multinational companies in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and South Africa.
David Hale also serves as Chairman of the Board of a service provider for business and economic news about China.
Before launching his own firm, David Hale was the Global Chief Economist for the Zurich Financial Services Group. As Chief Economist for Zurich, he advised the group's fund management and insurance operations on the economic outlook and a wide range of public policy issues.
David Hale's articles have appeared in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, Financial Times, New York Times, the Nihon Kezai Shimbun, The Financial Analyst Journal, Harvard Business Review and Foreign Policy.
David Hale is also a frequent television commentator on breaking news events that affect the global economy — and a popular economics speaker at global forums.
David Hale's experiences, both domestically and abroad, have helped make him one of the premier global relations and business speakers. He expertly assesses the global macroeconomic picture, the opportunities and challenges, and the related geopolitical risks that are ahead. David Hale examines the growing economic might and influence of Asia, and China specifically, upon the global economy. He lectures worldwide, to groups including the World Economic Forum, the Fortune Global CEO Conference, and the National Association of Governors.
David Hale holds a B.Sc. Degree in International Economic Affairs from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service — and a M.Sc. Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
In September 1990, the New York chapter of the National Association of Business Economists conferred upon David Hale, the William F. Butler Award. This award is conferred annually by the society upon a business economist who has made an outstanding contribution to the field. Other recipients have included Paul Volcker, Geoffrey Moore, Lawrence Klein, Alan Greenspan, and Otto Eckstein.
David Hale has frequently testified before Congressional committees on domestic and international policy economic issues and has been a consultant to the US Department of Defense on how changes in the global economy are affecting US security relationships.
David Hale is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, as well as a variety of government and private sector economic policy research groups in Washington, Tokyo, and Berlin. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in both New York and Chicago, and is a longtime member of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue.
