Boomer Esiason Speaker Biography


Boomer Esiason is one of the most respected broadcasters in sports due to his in-depth analysis and truthful personality. Since 2002, Esiason has been a lead studio analyst for CBS’s “The NFL Today”, the CBS Television Network’s NFL pre-game and post-game program. In 2007, he debuted as co-host of WFAN’s national weekday morning show “Boomer & Carton”, alongside Craig Carton. The program became a top-rated morning show and was simulcasted on the CBS Sports Network running until 2017. On January 2, 2018, Boomer welcomed new co-host Greg Giannotti and the show was rebranded as the "Morning Show with Boomer & Gio" on WFAN as well as simulcasted on the CBS Sports Network. He served as an analyst on “Inside The NFL” on Showtime for five seasons (2014-2018). In addition, Esiason can be seen on the Saturday morning syndicated interview program “Gametime with Boomer Esiason” across CBS affiliates.

Upon retiring after the 1997 season, Esiason headed straight to the broadcast booth. He made his debut as a commentator for ABC's NFL "Monday Night Football," and called "MNF" games for two years. He called games for Westwood One Radio Sports "Monday Night Football" broadcasts for 18 seasons (2000-17), teaming with Marv Albert and Kevin Harlan for eight years each. He contributes daily commentary to CBS Sports Radio’s “CBS Sports Minute” and is a weekly guest during the NFL season on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston. He was a weekly contributor for Bleacher Report’s “Behind the Mic” and Sport Illustrated’s SI.com. Esiason hosted "The Boomer Esiason Show" on Madison Square Garden Network for eight years. During the 2001 season, he served as an analyst on Fox Sports Net's "NFL This Morning."

Before gaining his stellar reputation as a broadcaster, the 14-year NFL veteran played for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award 1988 and led the Cincinnati Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII (1989). Sporting News and Football Digest also named Esiason NFL Player of the Year that same season.

The University of Maryland product ranks 18th all-time in the NFL with 37,920 passing yards (1st for left-handed quarterbacks), 21st all-time with 2,969 completions (1st for left-handed quarterbacks) and 19th all-time with 247 touchdown passes (1st for left-handed quarterbacks). In the 1984 NFL Draft, Esiason was selected by the Bengals in the second round.

Esiason’s accomplishments stretch far beyond football. After his son Gunnar was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, Esiason created the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) in 1993 to fund research to find a cure for the deadly disease. Its mission is to provide a higher quality of life for people with cystic fibrosis. In addition, BEF provides education, awareness and scholarships for people with the disease. To date, BEF has raised over $200 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

In 1995, the NFL honored him with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his excellence on the football field as well as his charitable work through his Foundation.

Esiason currently serves as a spokesman for Tri-State Ford Dealers and Investors Bank. He was the former spokesperson for FedEx, Coca-Cola, STS Tire Centers, Life & Health Insurance Foundation For Education’s “Life Insurance Awareness Month” and Johnsonville Sausage.

The East Islip, NY native currently maintains partnerships for BEF with companies including United HealthCare, Allstate, Under Armour, Samsung Electronics, Diageo, Jiffy Lube, Brax Spirit Cups and Barbasol.

Along with his various off-the-field activities, has also authored two novels, A Boy Named Boomer and Toss.

Esiason and his wife Cheryl currently live in Manhasset and have two children, Gunnar and Sydney and a granddaughter.
