Travis Lloyd is an international motivational speaker and consultant primarily serving organizations and events that focus on creating systemic change within child welfare, juvenile justice, and mental health services. He is a qualified Crisis Intervention Specialist and has spoken at high schools, colleges, nationally recognized conferences and professional development events. He has worked with top experts in developmental psychology and is an internationally published poet.

Like many people, Travis faced a few challenges growing up. He believes that no matter where you come from or where you want to go, it is possible.

Travis is the President of the national non-profit Foster Care Alumni of America and has long been an advocate for at-risk populations. In 2014, he authored the book, "Overcoming Emotional Trauma: Life Beyond Survival Mode" with contributions from the late Dr. Gregory Keck. This book highlights Mr. Lloyd's personal stories and advice for overcoming traumatic experiences and has been utilized both in clinical practices and educational settings in several U.S. states.

Travis has developed a seminar titled Applied Trauma-Informed Care: Putting TIC into Everyday Practice with the first event date scheduled for early 2018. Travis previously served as a Registered Nurse in emergency departments, inpatient mental health facilities, and more recently as a mental health Mobile Crisis Worker with law enforcement.

Travis Lloyd experienced foster care, group homes and being institutionalized. While offering emotional stories and the insight of a healthcare professional with over a decade of experience in emergency departments and mental health services, he has an uncanny ability to relate to all audiences and entertain with hip-hop music and poetry. He shares a story of breaking the generational cycles that can be found hindering performance in any school or workplace.

By overcoming his challenges and reinforcing the importance of emotional wellness & lifelong learning, Travis has made it his personal goal to empower young people, the adults in their lives, and the professionals who work with them to reach their full potential; Achieving Success–Against All Odds.

Just 1 Person

Providing emotional stories about once being a hopeless youth offers a powerful reminder as to the “why” behind why you do what you do. After reminding attendees of the true impact they have as Just 1 Person in a child’s life, I explore my life-long journey of discovery, hope, and permanence and how various child-serving professionals impacted this journey, both negatively and positively. This presentation often includes the option of incorporating live performance of poetry and lyrics once used to inspire national child welfare legislation. The dots are connected as practical approaches to connecting and empowering are highlighted by uncommon stories of working as an RN in Mental Health and Pediatric Emergency, and as a Mobile Crisis Worker.

Success Against All Odds: A Story of Finding Passion & Purpose Through Health Care Professions

Inspire students to explore a vast array of health careers, or re-inspire professionals to find passion and purpose at work and home.  Great for orientation events, recruitment events, and annual celebrations, among others.

Strategic Sharing Panel Facilitation

One of the most important aspects of learning to implement TIC principles in everyday practice is finding ways to understand the “Why” behind actions, lack of action, and the systems we live and work in. The Strategic Sharing Panel provides a nonjudgmental platform for service recipients to share about their journeys in front of parents, professionals, direct care providers, administrators, and executives. The panel is presented in a structured format that humanizes individuals while using a discussion format to verbally analyze their “case file.” Follow-up questions highlight both the positive and negative experiences prior to ending the session with an open forum Q&A. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the stories and experienced shared. The goal is to create opportunities for self-reflection and begin viewing the experiences of service recipients from the perspective of TIC principles.

Service recipients can be any range of people including, but not limited to, customers, students, at-risk youth, and adult clients. Panel participants are chosen from within organizations that are local to the region where the seminar will be held. The panel is facilitated by Travis Lloyd.

Finding & Living Your Purpose (45-60 minute keynote OR 60-90 minute workshop)

This presentation is designed as an interactive self-reflective workshop that walks attendees through a series of activities that focus on defining or re-defining your individual purpose statement. The session starts by hearing about Travis Lloyd’s personal experiences in struggling to find purpose and the steps he took to break through to a more fulfilling life. Mr. Lloyd then guides attendees through those steps. These steps include making sense of your past life experiences, understanding how key past moments impact your present life, and identifying your strengths, passions, and values to align with a bigger purpose in life. This is a process that can be replicated with youth and/or adults and is a practice that, if used at least yearly, can boost clarity of purpose and even job satisfaction and performance.
