NEW TOPICS 2017

How to Avoid Business Disruptors

One of the greatest strategic advantages a company can have is the ability to avoid business disruptors.  The sources for business disruption are everywhere.  Situational imposed business disruptors would include recessions, poor hiring practices, lack of technology, strong competition, new government regulations, changing consuer trends, or data breaches, to name a few.  On top of the situational imposed business disruptors are the self-imposed disruptions caused by poor leadership, lack of knowledge or date, arrogance, laziness, poor research, assumptions, disregarding trends, foolish judgement, bad employees and poor customer service.

The average life expectancy of a multinational corporation-Fortune 500 or its equivalent is only 40 years.  Over 420 companies with assets of more than $500 million have filed for bankruptcy since 1981 and over 74% of the Fortune 500 companies that existed in 1980 are no l onger on the list.  Mr. Stevenson’s program is designed to help business leaders and employees understand where business disruptions come from and how to deal with, and when possible, avoid them.

The Foundations for the Program

  • Human resources are a company’s most valuable asset
  • Collective problem identification can be very productive
  • Empowered employees results in more energized ideas
  • An established Focused Action Plan aligns the organization towards common goals
  • Involving your employees in the problem solving process is the most efficient way to produce multiple workable solutions

Creating a Powerful Corporate Culture

Throughout the world, technological change and global competition continue on their relentless and disruptive path of uncertainty and volatility.  Compounded by the current economic external threats of weakening consumer demand, growing unemployment, tight credit and collapsing housing markets, it is no surprise that many companies today are facing critical decisions on how to survive.  Mr. Stevenson has designed this program to help companies, organizations and associations not only survive…but thrive in these types of conditions.

“Corporate Culture” is the fundamental character or spirit of an organization that influences the loyalty and general behavior of its employees.  When you learn how to combine The Right Corporate Culture with The Right Core Competencies, your organization will begin to thrive.

The Foundations for the Program

Having employees fixing problems after-the-fact costs more and results in upset customers.  Identifying potential opportunities for the organization creates the possibility for higher profits.  Mr. Stevenson’s program will help to show you how to get all your employees to thing like an owner, proactively recognizing problems and opportunities.

The Power of RE

It’s okay to change your mind.  You must realize and understand that smart people and effective managers are the ones who are willing to CHANGE THEIR MIND and move on.  Stubbornness and inflexibility can kill a company and a career.

Changing your mind is like a “do over”…a “start again”…a “second chance”…a ‘REDO”.  I started thinking about the word REDO.  The prefix “RE” means to do again.  So, you have the power of the word “DO”, which is the core of all accomplishments, combined with the added safety net of “RE”…do it again.

If more people would get in the habit of using “RE” more often, things would work out a lot better for them.  If things aren’t going the way you want, then RE-flect, RE-think, RE-establish, RE-build, RE-view, RE-vise, RE-new, RE-structure, RE-generate, RE-organize, RE-direct. RE-capture, RE-work, RE-cover, RE-fine, RE-arrange, RE-evaluate, RE-form, RE-tract, RE-create, RE-start and/or RE-do.

The Foundations for the Program:

So many people today RE-frain from changing anything.  They will RE-sist and RE-sendd any suggestions you give.  So they will keep RE-peating their past mistakes and RE-linquish any chance they have for future success.  This program is designed to RE-veal how successful companies, managers and employees deal with the need for change, innovations, new ideas and methods…while at the same time understanding the importance of overcoming the fear of altering anything.

PEAK PERFORMANCE

How the Best Get Better

This double-edged sword presentation cuts to the core of performance, both business and personal performance. Mandates from management throughout the country all seem to be singing the same song: “If we are going to remain successful and be players in the marketplace both now and in the future, we must constantly strive to learn more, improve our quality of service, increase customer satisfaction, increase market share and do it in less time with fewer people.”

To keep elements for success effective, to facilitate individuals performing at their Optimum Level, it sometimes takes a catalyst of rare ingredients to first ignite the fire and then keep it blazing. This Peak Performance program was designed to be the catalyst to get things moving, and also teach techniques to keep it going.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

You've Got To Make Them Say Wow!

This program deals with dispelling the theory that the customer is always right. Whether it was selling a Dixie cup of lemon-aid on the sidewalk or closing a multimillion-dollar deal, anyone who has ever dealt with a customer knows the customer is not always right. Many times the customer is wrong, very wrong; however they are still the customer. This Customer Service program addresses how to keep customers spending their money at your organization without giving away the farm. By exploring not only in the initial sell, but also addressing how to improve repeat and referral business, this program will provide concrete examples of ways to improve your selling techniques. This program has been designed as an educational, interactive seminar for anyone who has customer contact, from Executives, Managers, and Supervisors to Hourly Personnel.

COMMUNICATION

The Single Most Important Skill Determining Your Success In Life

The Single Most Important Skill Determining Your Success in Life is Communication. Communication is an interactive event between two or more individuals; a give and take of thoughts, wants, or needs. Communication is a skill that must be learned and practiced regularly in order to be successful at it. This communication program was designed using proven and powerful communication techniques intended to call the audience to action, calling them to examine their own skills, and then calling them to actively practice improving those skills.

HANDLING CHANGE

If You Don't Like Change - You Are Going To Hate Extinction

Change is a constant. You can either choose to embrace it or watch as you organization disintegrates right before your eyes.

Some people embrace change. Some people just go with the flow and deal with it only when they have to. Then there are those few, die hard, stubborn, inflexible, obstinate people out there, who are going to fight changing to the bitter end. In today’s accelerating pace of technological change, if you plan on WINNING, SUCCEEDING, and STAYING ON TOP, you better pay attention to the ever-changing landscape. Blind devotion to past technologies, methodologies, systems and procedures is a success killer. The pace of change is accelerating in every industry, every market, and in every facet of our daily lives.

This program is designed to show people how to not only handle change, but embrace it; in simple terms, how to cope, control and capitalize on change. It will show you how making a decision to alter your course (change) becomes a catalyst for emerging ideas. Your mind wants a direction, a course, a decision and when you give it that clarity it rewards you with new hope, inspiration and energy; you quit floundering in your indecision and flourish in your new direction. It puts you in a better frame of mind and you now start seeing how you can make things work rather than dwell in the debilitating mood of self-defeat; changing your mind becomes and energizing force.

LEADERSHIP

The Leadership Formula

The Leadership program focus is on practical, insightful and useful skills that help to make relationships work and companies prosper. Designed with the goal of helping organizations thrive in today's marketplace, Mr. Stevenson identifies how to start, maintain, and deepen working relationships. This program starts with the nine elements of the Leadership Formula then delves even deeper into the philosophy of relationships. Robert Stevenson addresses courage and challenge, confidence and commitment, compassion and communication, change, cooperation, and control.

TEAM BUILDING

I've Got Your Back

For your organization to succeed in this ever changing environment you need to be certain you are running at peak performance; all resources must be utilized to full potential. When considering the resources of an organization, its most valuable asset is always its human resources. To be able to maximize results, you need to be able to maximize Operations, Preparations, Motivations, and ExpectationsRobert Stevenson has developed a program that addresses the many aspects of teamwork and how to make it function at its optimum potential.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Riding a New Wave To Success

Mr. Stevenson has developed this program to facilitate the Strategic Planning process. This program enables the organization to get a handle on what it is doing right, where it can improve, and what must be done to reach the goals being set. Some of the greatest experts for any business are their own people. Utilizing various aspects of dynamic interaction, Mr. Stevenson will take full advantage of the brainpower sitting in the room. With Robert as the catalyst driving the audience, everyone will get involved and in no time be combining their collective brilliance to accomplish far more than previously thought possible. This training session will show participants how to involve their own associates or subordinates in obtaining the best possible solutions for problems and issues they face.

Participants will learn how to dig deep to find what needs improvement and learn how to produce a prioritized strategic action plan intended to improve the organization and better prepare it for today's ever changing environment. Depending on time constraints this program can also give a detailed account of what is going right, and what needs improvement along with having the group produce a prioritized strategic action plan intended to improve the organization and better prepare it for today's highly competitive and ever changing environment. This seminar will prove to be one of the best allocations of corporate resources ever authorized.

SALES

The Answers To Successful Selling Are All Four Letter Words

The art, discipline, techniques of selling have traveled many different paths over the centuries. Whether one is doing research or actually working in businesses it is obvious the path to selling effectively has gone from simple to highly sophisticated and back again. This program doesn't mean to oversimplify the process of selling something, but it will make it understandable and easy to implement by sticking to the basics. The program breaks down the Art and Science of Selling into a no-nonsense set of guidelines that will make even the most novice of salespeople a success.

INNOVATION

The Relentless Pursuit Of Excellence

Simple words like “Why” or “What if” can save a company if asked at the right time. Great leaders see challenges as an invitation for the group to test, justify, explain, and prove ideas. They welcome vigorous dialogue and debate. They see argument and disagreement as catalysts to better solutions. Unfortunately, some managers / bosses / CEOs / companies have instilled such an environment of fear that they seldom, if ever, have anyone question their ideas, policies, procedures, or methods. In an environment where the Top 10 In-Demand Jobs today did not exist in 2004 and the amount of technical information in the world is doubling every 2 years, innovation has become one of the critical functions of survival for companies today.

“Great managers” have no problem admitting a policy or procedure just doesn’t work anymore. They understand you cannot become what you need to be by remaining what you are. This program will teach your participants how to delve, inquire, forget the past, try a clean slate, rewrite the rulebook, involve other fields of expertise, look from a different angle, try to find a 2nd right answer, along with the importance of involving all departments and levels of experience. It will show them how to inspire, exchange ideas, share experiences, describe challenges, have a shared sense of purpose, and learn from each other. If you want to create an Innovative Environment where your people will understand the power and purpose of openly and candidly challenging the rules, understanding the genius of subtraction rather than addition, appreciate that the Hero is the one with ideas and how “not” to succumb to the destructive power of traditional mindsets … then this program is for you.

SUCCESS

Essential Habits For Success

Why is it that some people succeed while others fail? That answer seems to elude most people. With over two decades of research from having interviewed over 10,000 employees, managers and senior executives in over 250 industries, Mr. Stevenson has amassed an enormous data base on the subject of SUCCESS.

That research has helped him write a book addressing what he feels are the Fifty-Two Essential Habits for Success. Mr. Stevenson has designed a study method so “simple” that he will be able to show your attendees how to master all the habits and make them a part of their daily life. A method that will only take a couple of minutes a day. This program is designed to not only help individuals become more talented, motivated, productive, and successful but help organizations do the same by identifying key habits they must possess as well.

Make Your Bed
Monday, November 30, 2015

Just a PEON
Monday, October 5, 2015

I’m JUST a rookie. He’s JUST an intern. She’s JUST a receptionist. They are JUST customer service reps. Don’t ask them, they work on the factory floor … they’re not in management. The office boy, an attendant, an orderly, or the person who is kept around for odd jobs and has no real title at all, is certainly not that important to the company … REALLY?

There are some people who might think the equipment manager of a football team isn’t "that" important. They certainly don’t make important decisions like the Head Coach. They can’t throw the football 70 yards down the field to a star receiver, or run 100 yards on a kick-off return. They are JUST the equipment manager. But, it sure would be tough to play a game without “ALL” the equipment being there.

Different Approach
Tuesday, June 9, 2015

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to address the Drug & Alcohol Testing Industry Association and it was one of the most memorable programs I have done in my career; the people attending the conference provide drug & alcohol testing for any company, organization, state or federal agency. During my interviewing process to help me customize my program, one of the questions I asked them was … “What makes your job difficult?” Several people responded: “Having to deal with all the stupid excuses people give for testing positive for drugs.” That response really intrigued me, so I dug deeper in my questioning to get actual examples of their excuses; I will get to the excuses in a moment.

To help them with this difficult portion of their job, I suggested they deal with the problem with a different approach. I proposed they print up a little one-page list of excuses that will not be accepted for testing positive for drugs and hand that to them before being test. That way, if they do test positive for having drugs or alcohol in their system, there is no need to waste everyone’s time using any of the excuses listed. Below are the actual excuses given (with NO embellishment) and the form I suggested they print up.

Your Greatness Awaits
Monday, October 27, 2014

To be successful at anything requires a lot of practice. Whatever your profession is, athletic or non-athletic... if you don't practice you will not improve. The defining moment in your journey towards the success you desire will be when you decide to put in the time to excel at your profession. You will be amazed what you can do when study and practice are part of your daily routine, which, by the way ... should never stop.

The point at which you quit learning and practicing to get better, is the point you start losing. An eye surgeon once told me he spent two years doing everything with his non-dominant hand so he could make it as proficient as his dominant hand. He felt that would make him a better surgeon. Can you imagine writing with your non-dominant hand. Take a moment and give it a try. How did you do? It takes dedication and the discipline to practice if you want to REALLY succeed.

THERE IS NO SUCCESS WITHOUT PRACTICE

You are not born with talent,
on this I can attest.
You just have potential,
nothing more and nothing less.

This potential is lying dormant,
down deep inside of you.
Practice is what is required
to make your best shine through.

You need to practice like you are losing,
behind or coming in last.
You need to practice to get better,
you can't live in the past.

You need to practice with a purpose,
a plan and a goal.
You need to practice with a passion
you can feel in your soul.

You need to practice with the fear
somebody better is out there,
they are practicing to beat you,
so you must prepare.

You need to practice doing it correctly
until you make no mistakes,
then practice some more,
for your greatness is at stake.

You need to practice with a mindset
that the day will arrive,
that you will master your skill,
your confidence will thrive.

You can't buy talent, ability,
expertise or skill.
Practice is the only currency
to pay that bill.

There is no hiring of people
to practice for you.
Only your practice
will see you through.

So practice with a joy
for what your efforts will create.
It's your time and effort at practice,
that will make you great.

So, if you intend to take it to the next level, you need to understand there is only one way to get there: PRACTICE. The following statement, made by an unknown source, I think best sums up the importance of practice.

There is no GLORY in practice,
but without practice –
there is no GLORY!

Adequacy is Unacceptable

Adequacy is Unacceptable

I recently did a program for a company that has been in business for 64 years. In researching the company to prepare for my program, I was really impressed with their Value Statement. It had such power and clarity incorporated into one short sentence. Here is their statement:

In the pursuit of excellence, adequacy is unacceptable.

What Should Come First - Success or Happiness ?
Thursday, August 15, 2013

This isn’t going to be a What comes first – the Chicken or the Egg debate. There is actually some excellent data that answers our title question. Dr. Sonja Lybomirsky, of the University of California, along with several colleagues, analyzed the results of 211 different studies addressing this issue. They wanted to know … Are happy people more successful? … and … Does happiness precede success?

Success is a Lousy Teacher ..It is Time to Raise Your Bar
Monday, January 14, 2013

Bill Gates said, “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.” Couple that statement with one from former Intel Chairman Andy Grove, who said … “Only the paranoid survive. Paranoids believe someone or some force is out to get them,” and now you should have a better perspective on how two enormously successful men remained successful in such competitive, turbulent times.
