Over the course of her 25-year career, award-winning journalist and opinion writer Goldie Taylor has emerged as one of the most powerful voices in public discourse. Today, she is a political analyst and on-air contributor at MSNBC where she focuses principally on public policy issues. Best known for her take-no-prisoners style, Taylor has become one of the nation’s preeminent thought leaders on gun control, domestic violence, human trafficking, public health, poverty and environmental justice. Then too, as a former Marine, she often addresses foreign affairs and military issues.
Taylor got her start as an Atlanta Journal-Constitution staff writer and since has contributed hard-hitting opinion columns to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Ebony Magazine, Creative Loafing, CNN.com, MSNBC.com, and theGrio.com, among others. Most notably, she penned EbonyJet.com’s “A Woman’s Worth” and “Show Me Your Papers,” which debuted on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show—its title came to dominate the lexicon around racial profiling and immigration reform.
As a sought after political strategist, Taylor was communications director for Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed and guided field outreach and GOTV efforts for a myriad of candidates across the South. After a life on the campaign trail, Taylor became a featured political analyst at WXIA 11 Alive NBC News—a role she continues today.
In 2005, Taylor added the title of “author” to her many roles with the self-published release of In My Father’s House, a fictionalized autobiography. Her second novel, The January Girl, was published in 2007 by Grand Central/ Hachette. Taylor is currently working on a political thriller, Paper Gods, and her first non-fiction title, The Devil And Missouri Daniel—a familiar memoir set in post-Reconstruction era Arkansas. Her literary works are currently represented by Laura Dail Literary Agency.
Taylor has appeared on major cable and broadcast news networks, including CNN and HLN, as well as marquee programs like Real Time with Bill Maher, The Ricki Lake Show, and Good Morning America. She frequently lends her voice to Ring of Fire Radio, The Bill Press Show, The Ryan Cameron Morning Show, Joe Madison and a host of other local and national television and radio programs on a weekly basis.
In addition to her work as a journalist, Goldie Taylor has made great contributions to the representation of people of color in the media as an advertising executive as well. Taylor was both the chief architect of Procter & Gamble’s long-term community building initiative, “My Black is Beautiful” and the marketing force behind CNN’s “Black in America.” She has been an executive leader with global advertising and public relations concerns, as well as a consultant for both NBC News and CNN Worldwide.
A consulting producer for “CNN Presents: The Atlanta Child Murders”, Taylor launched a film and television production company Faithful Moon Films in 2013. Her first feature length documentary, The Other Side Of Grace, is currently in pre-production. Taylor is also set to appear in OWN TV’s forthcoming documentary Light Skinned Girls, a continuation of the dialogue started by the network’s airing of the controversial Dark Girls.
A former U.S. Marine, Taylor trained in broadcast radio and television journalism and public affairs at the Defense Information School and later continued her studies in Political Science and Journalism at Emory University in Atlanta.
