Women's Self Esteem Workshop - Moments - Francine Ward
H.S. Dropout, Junkie, Alcoholic, Prostitute, Pathetic, Victim, Helpless, Hopeless, Failure, Sober, Lawyer, Faithful, God-Centered, Author, Motivational Speaker, Coach, Consultant . . . all words that describe Francine Ward's amazing life, which reads like a great American novel. The kind where the heroine overcomes INCREDIBLE odds, and then turns around to help others do the same.
She is a sought after Inspirational Keynote Speaker, Motivational Speaker, Self-Esteem Coach, Author, and Intellectual Property Attorney. Any one of these things, a person would aspire to do in one lifetime--Francine has done them all, and then some . . . her story in brief:
She's been where few people have been and lived to tell the story!
- Born in Atlanta and raised in poverty in New York's South Bronx
- Addicted to drugs and alcohol until 26 years old, she was deemed a life failure with a 1% chance of survival
- Hit by a car at 26 and told she'd never walk again
- Lived as a hopeless, helpless, pathetic victim of life--WHO bought into that message
- Allowed fear, failure, and disappointment to control her view of the world
Today, hers is a story of resilience, endurance, and a faith that works under all conditions. Francine Ward proves that success in life is not just about having confidence or having the right pedigree; it’s about making right choices and being willing to overcome the inevitable obstacles that are bound to get in your way.
Some people talk about getting things done. Other people actually get things done. Francine Ward strikes that delicate balance between being a visionary with an idea and a mover & shaker who turns it into something bankable.
Lawyer, entrepreneur, author, professional speaker, philanthropist, & marathon runner, each of these roles signifies a commendable achievement for any individual, but together, they form an extraordinary list of credentials for one person to attain. And when the person who fits the bill is formerly a drug-addicted, alcoholic prostitute, the magnitude of their accomplishments is astonishing. Francine Ward is that person, and her story is compelling. The story of a woman who not only overcame extreme adversity to lead a life of triumph, courage, and success, but who has chosen to turn back and consistently help others create amazing lives as well. Francine Ward comes to the table with a unique blend of competencies making her a viable choice for almost any event. As a businesswoman, Ward knows what its like to run her own company, manage staff, and deal with day to day issues that arise. As a Georgetown educated lawyer, she understands the importance of protecting her valuable intellectual property.
She also possesses the hard core skills often required to make tough business decisions and the ability to negotiate when necessary. As a business coach, Francine Ward grasps the need for effective and appreciative listening skills. As someone who lived many lives, it’s been said that, she has the uncanny ability to understand the human condition at a very deep level. Finally, as a professional speaker, Francine has the skill to effectively put her thoughts and feelings into words, creating images in a way her varied audiences can understand. Wards philosophy is simple, but profound: set a goal for where you want to be, create a plan for making it happen, don’t let obstacles get you down, ask for help along the way, and baby step your way to success! Better than most, Francine Ward understands the importance of going beyond the seeming obstacles to get to the goal. In her own words, I was taught that failure was the worst thing that could happen to me. And then I failed a lot! Eventually I realized that out of each failure comes the opportunity to rise to the next level in life. Finally, Francine is dedicated to helping others. She sits on the board of the National Council on Alcoholism and Other Drugs Bay Area, is an active Rotarian, and volunteers with a number of community service projects that involve abused women, at risk kids, and teen girls.

Self-Esteem Comes From DOING Esteemable Acts!
Self esteem comes from DOING Esteemable Acts; the operative word is “DOING.” It doesn’t come from thinking or feeling; real and lasting self love comes from doing those things that genuinely make you feel good about who you are. We've been sold a bill of goods. From the moment we pop out of our mother's bellies, we're told that either we are born with self esteem or that it comes from something (or someone) outside of ourselves. And the sad reality is that we buy into that theory. And for many of us, especially women, we spend our lives in search of HIM, who will make us whole. HIM, who will be the answer to our prayers. HIM, who will sweep us off of our feet and make life worth living. Sadly, many of us are well into our adult years before we realize that it's a lie! I once heard someone say, "If I am the problem, there is a solution." No truer statement was ever made. In this age of instant gratification, extreme makeovers, and 15-minute success stories, it's easy to think that self-esteem is all about driving the right car, living in the right house, having the right letters behind your name, being confident & self-assured, and repeating "I love me" mantras in the mirror. In fact, studies show that self-esteem--positive self-regard--comes from behaving in a way that makes you like and respect who you are. From a woman who transformed her life of crime, self-degradation, and confidence to a life that really works, she's got something to say.
Don't Give Up Before the Miracle!
It's easy to hate your life and wish it were different. Believe me I have been down that road! It's easy to sit and contemplate what your next move should be. But all the thinking and feeling in the world won't get you from point A to B unless something changes. At the end of the day, what it comes down to is ACTION--doing what it takes to get the desired result. The problem is that we all know this but knowing it and actually doing something about it are two entirely different concepts. The other obstacle that holds us back is not knowing where to begin or how to go about setting small goals that are measurable. This alone can be frightening and it prevents many people from getting started. It is much easier to get started if you have someone guiding you and a roadmap to help you along the way. Trying to begin alone usually means that you will never get started and getting started is the most difficult part of the journey. If you can identify what is holding you back then you overcome the obstacle and be on your way to an amazing life.
ACTION is the Key to Everything!
Nowadays, everyone's talking about The Secret and the Law of Attraction--how you can have the life of your dreams if you just THINK it so. While that makes good coffee table conversation, in truth, research shows that those who reach their goals, whether it's writing a book, losing weight, changing careers, buying a house, stopping drinking, learning a new skill, running a marathon, or meeting the person of your dreams, were able to do so, because they took action and lots of it! You have heard the adage “Massive action brings massive results!” Although it seems like an overused cliché there is reason for this……it works! Everyone that has overcome addictions or have achieved something they have always dreamed of took massive ACTION to get them where they want to go. One of the issues we all face is some of the values and beliefs we were raised with. More often than not we are told successful people got that way because they were lucky. Nothing could be farther from the truth! Successful people got there by creating a plan of action, tapping into the knowledge of other people who have been down the same path, and not quitting as soon as the going got tough.
You Can't Change What You Can't See!
It's hard to change something unless you know it needs changing. Depending on who we are or where we are in our lives, success can be defined in any number of ways. Yet, regardless of how it's defined, one ingredient to creating a successful life is a willingness to see the truth of a situation--even if that means seeing the truth in us. Oftentimes what stands between us and success is US--our attitudes, behaviors, beliefs, or old ways of doing things. Having the courage to see past our little feelings, to what needs to be done, is a mark of true character and the first step toward living a successful life. Having the courage to see ourselves clearly is an essential tool for success, not only in our personal lives, but in business. Self-examination and the courage to face it is life transforming. It can be very easy to stay stuck in the mold you were born with and it can be downright frightening to do what is necessary to break out of that mold and make a significant change in your life. However, you will find that once you get started you have already overcome the most difficult hurdle. This is not to say that there will not be any more difficult times….there will. If you know this going in and set up a support system you will eventually be able to change your life in a big way. Change is never easy. If it were, more people would be doing it.
Fear Ain't Nothin' But a 4-Letter Word!
What's the one thing every person has in common--from celebrities to politicians, to young moms, to captains of industry, to the auto mechanic down the street? FEAR. And what's the one thing that separates those who are living the dream, from those who feel they've been left behind? A willingness to walk through the fear. When you think about it we are taught to fear right from the beginning of our lives.
When you walk out the door when you were growing up the tendency was to hear the words, “Be careful!” Although our parents meant well, subconsciously these types of words taught us to be fearful. Words like “Don’t work too hard,” “Get a steady job,” “Don’t talk to strangers,” “Don’t walk home in the dark,” and many more phrases. This is not to say our parents should have raised us to be careless but what if your parents said, “Go out and pursue your dreams” as you left the house? Chances are you would not have as many fears to overcome as an adult.
The media also likes to induce fear in all of us. Notice the next time you look at the news headlines. What percentage of that information is positive? Not a whole lot! This means that we must take control of the reins if we are going to change our life for the better. If you tune out the external influences this is the equivalent of turning down the noise so you can focus on your inner self and conquer your fears. If you allow fear to control your life you will never get started on the road to a new and improved lifestyle.
