Bobby Unser - Racing Legend
A racing legend, Bobby Unser has been setting race records for 50 years. He comes from a racing family that includes brother Al, a four-time Indy winner, and nephew Al, Jr., a two-time Indy winner. He won the Indianapolis 500, the oldest motorsports event in the United States, three times - in 1968, 1975, and again in 1981 at the age of 47. Unser has amassed 35 career Indy Car victories (4th all-time) and has 49 career pole positions (3rd all-time). He is a 13-time winner of America's second oldest motorsports event, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and was inducted into the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Hall of Fame having won more than any other driver in the 87-year history of the race. A two-time Indy Car World Series Champion (1968 and 1974), and the 1974 Driver of the Year, Unser is a member of both the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Indy 500 Hall of Fame.
Twenty-five years after his first Indianapolis 500 victory, at the age of 59, he set a new land speed record of 223.709 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. That same year, he won the inaugural Jaguar/Fast Masters Racing Series. In 2003, he published Winners Are Driven, a motivational book that enhanced an already busy career on the lecture circuit.
Now, Unser enjoys flying, hunting, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. Described as a larger-than-life hero, Unser is recognized and appreciated for his talent by even those who aren't into racing. With nothing stand-offish about him, Unser is approachable and loves sharing his story with fans and audiences alike.
